The Net Is Huge But Not Free!
With the launch of the Alta Vista Photo Finder® in October 1998, followed by
Arriba Vista Image Search Engine, Scour.Net and more recently Diggit! Image
Search and PicSearch, millions of images have been indexed, harvested, scoured,
bulldozed and vacuumed from websites worldwide without permission of their
owners, all in the guise of "fair use" and used to generate revenue for the
owners of the image search engines. New Internet startups offer "research
engines" and other means for Net users to take images and text -- without
permission and without payment -- to fuel their own business enterprises.
